Jack Bowerman's photos were saved from the trash by his
nephew when the house was being cleaned out after Jack's death in 1981.
The nephew realized the photos have some historical significance and has held
onto them all these years.
The photos are in several albums with no real order.
Very few photos are annotated. The photos that were deemed useful to
our little project have been scanned and placed into directories each containing 25 photos accessible by clicking the links below. Due to the efforts
of our little group, faces and places are being recognized, and thus an aspect
of British Columbia's history is slowly coming into focus.
There are over 400 photos, including some album pages so
that context may be seen. Photos can be enlarged by clicking on them.
Jack also left a narrative of his life and times up to the year 1925. It
makes for interesting reading and is available
here.
I also refer at various places in this site to Larry
Reid's book: "The Story of the West Coast Radio Service 1906-1956"
Chameleon Publishing 1992, Vancouver BC.
This web site gets incremental changes as I/we come across any information
which makes the photo and their descriptions clearer. These changes are
applied directly to the photo's comments.
Back in eastern Canada, Laval Desbiens has a web site
commemorating as many of the old radio inspectors and spectrum management
personnel and activities as possible. Check out Laval's Bowerman section
here.
